Senior NHS Members, Connor Sweeting and Rylee Myers, were guest speakers at the Pike County Rotary luncheon this week. They spoke about their future plans after they leave PHS.
(PHS) Mr. Bogatzke's Fundamental Algebra is finding slope using two points in a coordinate plane (x and y axis). The students utilized a life size coordinate plane and points to be able to walk and count to find the rise/run.

(PHS) Ms. White's General Business class has been working on developing their own Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor to support a social responsibility cause. Students researched and chose a social responsibility cause that aligned with Ben and Jerry's business values and beliefs.

The Pittsfield High School Boy’s Basketball team just presented 2 checks for 2 great causes. One to The Illini Community Hospital Oncology Department for $1,000 and the other to the Pike County Cancer Support group for $2,382.
(PHS) Students in Mrs. Gerard's A&P II class used simulated (fake) urine to perform a urinalysis test to diagnose abnormalities.

(PHS) Mrs. Bigley's Pastries class has been learning about the magic of yeast. Students learned the fundamental principles of yeast activation. They carefully measured and mixed their dough, feeling the elastic texture develop as gluten formed. The class explored the importance of proofing, observing how the dough doubled in size as the yeast produced carbon dioxide, creating airy pockets within. The students now understand how to make a dough rise, and how to create a delicious sweet treat.

(PHS) Mrs. Davidsmeyer's 3D Art class is currently working with clay and creating a variety of products. Other students have started working on the pottery wheel.
(PHS) Students in Mrs. Shade & Ms. White's Freshmen Computer Applications class started their Microsoft Excel unit this week. They finished up Microsoft Word at the end of Q3 and will start Microsoft PowerPoint in May. For most of the students, this class is their first time on desktop computers. They are learning all kinds of real-world skills like saving to a server, navigating the interface, data entry and formatting, page setup, using templates and themes, basic formulas, as well as learning to type correctly and efficiently, focusing on proper posture and hand positioning.

(PHS) Students in Mrs. Gerard's A&P I class collected data for their own grip strength and pinch strength using LabQuest computer interface and hand dynamometer sensors. Having the ability to grip is important for our everyday lives. Students compared and contrasted the class data collection and made claims regarding any correlations present.
