The PHS Student Council Food Drive begins this week! Any South School family who would like to donate food items can bring the items to school beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, November 12. The class who brings in the most food items by December 5 will receive a class pizza party compliments of the Little Braves Boosters. **We do ask that no glass bottle donations be sent in as they are a safety concern.** New this year is a Cereal Box Challenge. Students can bring in unopened boxes of cereal and on December 5, the PHS Student Council will set the cereal boxes up like dominos and the students will get to watch them fall throughout the hallways. Donations are always welcomed, but never expected. This purpose of this project is to offer support to local families in need while teaching our Little Braves about generosity and kindness.

Election Day in Kindergarten! Miss Maggie's class set up a polling station to have students vote on their favorite cookie. They placed their votes in a ballet box, then once we counted them they graphed and Tallied the votes! Oreos won, but only by a few!

South School is starting a new theme of highlighting 1 - 2 staff members each week! The South School Spotlight will be included on the weekly newsletter as well as on the Pikeland Facebook page. This will be a great way to meet the staff members that work with our Little Braves every day! The first spotlight is on Mrs. Sarah McNulty!

Friday Note
Dear South School Families, Keeping our Little Braves safe is of utmost importance at South School. Because of this a caution sign has been put up by the south end of the bus lane. The purpose is to pause families from crossing the bus lane before the buses have left each afternoon. It is difficult for the bus drivers to see people on the left hand side of the buses and this new policy could help ensure safety for all. Thank you for working in collaboration with the South School staff to create the safest environment possible for all of our Little Braves. Sincerely, Mrs. Allen

South School would like to give a big 'thank you' to the Pittsfield Fire Department and all of the volunteer firefighters who spent their day with us on Thursday. Students were welcomed at morning drop off by Marshall the Fire Dog and several firefighters! All classes received a fire safety lesson from the fire department along with a goody bag. Students were challenged to know where a safe meeting point is for their family if a fire should occur and to know their address in order to tell officers if they have to call 911. This is an annual event the students and staff always look forward to!

Mrs Frieden’s class earned a class reward for good behavior this quarter. They got to go on a leaf hunt that had school arrows attached to spend at the trading post and they got 10 extra minutes of playground time!

What a great night at South Elementary School! Tonight we welcomed roughly 175 families at Meet the Teacher Night. The line stretched to the street for a solid hour! We loved meeting new families and welcoming back returning Little Braves. Thank you for making tonight a memorable one for the South staff!

Mrs. Smith’s 2nd graders had a table competition spanning over two weeks. Each table chose a staff member to compete for. At the end of the competition, the winning table got to give Mrs. Wessel her surprise! The students loved working for the benefit of others so much, they are doing it again this week.
